Master’s in Adolescent Special Education / Professional Certification

Please note: The GRE is NO LONGER REQUIRED.

Professional Certification in Special Ed and your area of Initial Certification

College of Mount Saint Vincent’s Master of Science degree programs offer values-centered curricula and real-world experience. Students learn how to create a productive learning environment for a diverse range of educational settings and students, and develop the specialized knowledge to effectively teach different student populations while having a significant impact on students’ lives. Upon successful completion of this program and required Content Specialty Test for Students With Disabilities, students will have fulfilled the academic requirements for certification in Adolescent Special Education (Grades 7 – 12), as well as their initial Adolescent (grades 7-12) content certification area.

This program blends vital academic content with practical classroom teaching experience and will take you through everything you need to meet the requirements for Professional NYS certification in your initial area of certification and Special Education, including test prep for your Content Specialty Test.

Our partner programs are designed for working professionals, to be practical, affordable, and convenient. Our completion rate and the success of our thousands of graduates (teachers, counselors, principals, superintendents, etc) speak to the importance of our program design and the large and helpful network effect you’ll have when you graduate.

There is a teacher shortage. When you graduate you’ll be highly skilled and qualified in a high-need area.

Who is it for

The M.S. in Adolescent Special Education program at CMSV is an accelerated program designed for working professionals or recent college graduates who hold a valid NYS initial teaching certification in an adolescent (grades 7-12) content area, and need a master’s degree to earn their professional certification. Classes are conveniently held on weekends so that you can continue to work while you earn your degree. Our cohort model allows you to stay together with the same group of students throughout the program. Students receive a full course schedule upon admission, so you never have to worry about choosing and registering for courses. All students will be required to complete one course at CMSV’s Bronx campus during the summer semester in order to fulfill the NYS residency requirement. Please refer to the schedule page on www.citemsv.com for more information on the campus residency requirement.
